When Luxury Fashion Houses Enter the World of Fine Wine
In summer 2020, two iconic haute couture brands — Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana — traded the runway for the vineyard, launching elegant and highly coveted wines. From Porquerolles to Sicily, these island-born cuvées combine craftsmanship, terroir and luxury branding.
Chanel: Mediterranean elegance in a bottle
Owner of prestigious Bordeaux estates, Chanel expanded its wine portfolio by acquiring the Domaine de l’Île in Porquerolles in 2019. Under the guidance of oenologist Nicolas Audebert, the estate produces a refined organic rosé and white wine capturing the essence of the island’s maritime climate.
-
Rosé (€19.90): fresh, airy, with hints of pine and sea breeze
-
White (~€30): praised by experts as a potential great wine
Dolce & Gabbana: a fashion-forward rosé
Partnering with Sicilian winery Donnafugata, the brand created Rosa, a delicate pale rosé with notes of strawberry, peach, jasmine and bergamot. Its hand-painted Sicilian cart–inspired label makes it a collector’s item. Sold around €30, Rosa became one of summer 2020’s most sought-after wines.
