Luxury Spirits Bottles Designed by World-Renowned Artists
From luxury whisky bottles signed by Aston Martin to the spectacular Hennessy XO Extra Old cognac designed by architect Frank Gehry, the high-end spirits industry increasingly collaborates with leading figures from art, design and luxury. Much like high-end real estate in Paris and internationally, these exceptional bottles embody rarity, craftsmanship and refined aesthetics.
Enhancing Brand Image Through Luxury and Design
Champagne created with jeweller Mellerio, rosé wines signed by Chanel or Dolce & Gabbana, or gin produced at Buckingham Palace… Luxury brands are increasingly entering the spirits market to enhance their brand image.
The formula is always the same: combine an exceptional spirit with a prestigious name, produce limited editions and focus heavily on bottle design to appeal to collectors and luxury enthusiasts. Aston Martin, for instance, partnered with Bowmore to create just 25 bottles of ultra-premium single malt whisky. Each handcrafted bottle is encased in a genuine Aston Martin DB5 engine piston, a true collector’s item priced at €55,000.
Luxury Bottles: A Playground for Artists and Designers
These collaborations offer artists and designers complete creative freedom. Architect Frank Gehry designed an extraordinary bottle to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Hennessy XO Extra Old. The cognac is hidden inside a monumental gold and glass sculpture, with a crumpled bronze sleeve covered in 24-carat gold.
Limited to 150 numbered pieces, each signed by Gehry, the bottle is priced at nearly €15,000. Conversely, when fashion houses like Chanel invest in rosé wine, they elevate a popular product to luxury status. Chanel’s organic Côtes de Provence rosé, produced on the protected island of Porquerolles, is sold for around €19.90.
Bottles Adorned with Precious Stones
In the ultra-luxury segment, bottle design can dramatically increase value. The Henri IV Dudognon Heritage cognac bottle, created by jeweller José Davalos, weighs nearly 8 kilograms and is made of 24-carat gold and platinum, set with 6,500 diamonds. It is the world’s most expensive spirit bottle, valued at €1.7 million.
Other remarkable examples include the Goût de Diamants champagne, featuring an 18-carat white gold label set with a 19-carat white diamond (€1.4 million), and the Spluch Tequila, crafted by Mexican goldsmiths from pure platinum and adorned with 6,000 diamonds, priced at nearly €215,000.
